En el Museo de Historia Natural de Nueva York me llamó la atención una caja de luz con una ajada reproducción fotográfica en blanco y negro de un dibujo de una orquídea. Las líneas que definían la flor aspiran a la estructura que según Goethe expresa la ley, la compleja estructura interna que gobierna y ordena el organismo vegetal. La irregularidad del trazo del dibujo, perteneciente a un cuaderno de campo de una expedición a África de 1936, expresa la anomalía de la forma de vida, las marcas de los accidentes de la existencia singular del espécimen y la segunda ley, el vínculo entre la existencia y las condiciones específicas de la materialidad.

El carácter espontáneo de la ejecución del dibujo replica la singularidad del espécimen, resultando indistinguible del modelo tomado como referente.

At the Natural History Museum in New York, my attention was drawn to a lightbox displaying a faded black and white photographic reproduction of a drawing of an orchid. The lines that defined the flower aspired to the structure that, according to Goethe, expressed the law, the intricate internal framework that governs and orders the plant organism. The irregularity of the drawing’s strokes, originating from a field notebook of an expedition to Africa in 1936, conveyed the anomaly of the life form, the marks of the accidents in the singular existence of the specimen, and the second law, the link between existence and the specific conditions of materiality. The spontaneous nature of the drawing’s execution replicated the uniqueness of the specimen, rendering it indistinguishable from the model used as a reference.
